Can’t watch sports? We’ve got alternatives out there. You could read a book or go for a walk or take up a new hobby like painting or slam poetry or do any of the things that I’m going to suggest and review in this new series.

Hey there. How’s it going, folks? How are y’all handling social distancing, self-quarantining, and isolation? Have y’all found anything to keep busy during all of this time y’all are at home when you normally wouldn’t have been?

It’s kind of hard to keep up with sports when there’s no sports, but we’re gonna find some substitutes to enrich our lives with.

And one particularly great way to enrich your life is with music. Music is great, right? Everyone likes music. There’s plenty of reasons to listen to music everywhere (like in the shower, while you sleep, as you work, and so on and so forth).

As you’re now at home more than you used to be, you should probably listen to music more than you were in the past. And since this is a Mississippi State blog, we should honor a Mississippi State musical legend: Jimmy Buffett.

Okay so technically I don’t think he’s a State fan, but he did play at the Hump back in the day and looks good in maroon.

Buffett is also notably from Mississippi. The 73-year-old singer who was born on Christmas is from Pascagoula and many of his songs are about or were inspired by Mississippi’s share of the Gulf Coast.

We’re going to ignore the facts that Buffett went to Auburn for a little while and then later Southern Miss. We’re going to focus on that time he played at The Hump wearing Maroon and White. He’s a Mississippi State fan now, iyam.

And so, it’s only fair that we support him. How can we do that right now?

Well, that’s a good question. If you go to Margaritaville’s website, you’ll see options to “stay” at one of the Margaritaville resorts or “play” at one of the Margaritaville casinos or “dine” at a restaurant. Of those three choices, the only option I would recommend there would be maybe ordering your food and getting it to go. Remember, SOCIAL DISTANCING IS IMPORTANT HERE, FOLKS.

But you can go and still listen to Buffett’s music! Radio Margaritaville is available for FREE online. Just click here.

It’s not a perfect substitute for sports right now, but it’s certainly something that can help you get through the day as you’re working or sleeping or showering or whatever else you may do as you help flatten the curve.

OFFICIAL SPORTS ALTERNATIVE SCORE: 2/5

OFFICIAL ETHAN LEE WOULD PARTAKE IN THIS SCORE: 5/5 RADIO MARGARITAVILLE IS GREAT
