Mississippi State football schedule: Bulldogs currently set to face 6 ranked teams in 2022

The 2022 Mississippi State football season is sure to be an interesting one due to a few different factors. Something Mississippi State Bulldogs fans will certainly need to be aware of is how interesting the 2022 Mississippi State football schedule shapes up to be.

Things are never easy in the SEC West, everyone is more than aware of that fact. That said, the Mississippi State Bulldogs draw what could be a particularly difficult schedule this season thanks in large part to the fact of the SEC East teams that are on the 2022 Mississippi State football schedule.

There are 12 different opponents on Mississippi State’s schedule and, at the moment, half of those foes are currently ranked opponents. Four are from the SEC West and two are from the SEC East.

Here are the six games that feature currently ranked teams on Mississippi State’s schedule:

There are a few things that absolutely must be noted with this.

First, preseason rankings can certainly be wildly wrong. There are so many unpredictable elements that will shake things up between now and the end of the season. There are a ton of things that will change between now and October, which is when Mississippi State is currently set to face off against the Texas A&M Aggies (who are supposedly the 6th best team in the country).

It can be difficult to determine just how good teams will be.

Second, outside of the inclusion of the Georgia Bulldogs, this schedule features teams that Mississippi State faces on a regular basis. Mississippi State is used to facing these programs. Heck, even with the addition of Georgia, the two teams of Bulldogs have faced each other four times over the past 12 seasons (with three of those games being in Athens).

This doesn’t seem excessively abnormal, even if it will be difficult.

Interestingly enough, despite the fact that the Bulldogs aren’t ranked over some of these teams, Mississippi State is still favored over a few of them, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index. That’s right, Mississippi State will be facing some tough foes, but the Bulldogs will certainly have some shots at beating a few of them.

According to the FPI projections, Mississippi State is currently favored to beat both No. 6 Texas A&M and No. 19 Arkansas. Both of those games are at home in early October (and in back-to-back weeks) and both games would represent huge opportunities for Leach and the Bulldogs to make huge splashes in the SEC West standings.
