Mississippi State is just one win away. After crushing the Vanderbilt Commodores Tuesday night, the Mississippi State Bulldogs just need to get one more win to earn the first team national championship in the history of Mississippi State University.
That’s a pretty big deal.
And Mississippi State got a huge win over Vanderbilt to set the Bulldogs up nicely in the College World Series championship series. After falling 8-2 in game 1 of the CWS finals, Mississippi State came out and won 13-2 in game 2. That means all Mississippi State needs is one more win.
Following the game, Mississippi State head coach Chris Lemonis sat down with his team in the dugout to discuss the Bulldogs’ win.
Thankfully, once again, the Mississippi State Athletic Department has shared video from that team meeting so that we could all enjoy. Shoutout to them for giving us all an inside look.
“Once again we respond, resilient, tough. That’s who we are,” Lemonis said.
After a deflating loss in game 1, the Bulldogs needed to show they could compete with the Vanderbilt Commodores. Mississippi State certainly did just that as the Bulldogs came out and ran right over Vanderbilt Tuesday night.
Game 2 was a completely different ballgame with a completely different feel.
MSU didn’t fall behind once and the Bulldogs demonstrated to EVERYONE that they deserved to be in the championship series. And while Mississippi State fans certainly found that game 2 win cathartic, it seems like the Mississippi State baseball team isn’t satisfied just yet.
“I told you on the other nights, ‘hey enjoy it tonight.’ No. Right now our focus goes to [Wednesday] night at 6:07,” Lemonis said.
With murmurs of what appeared to be agreement around him from his team, Lemonis continued.
“We’ve got four, we didn’t come here for four. We talked about we’re going to come here and play for five,” Mississippi State’s head coach explained.
And that’s what the Bulldogs need. They need one more win. That’ll get them to the magic number of five wins in the 2021 College World Series, which gives the Bulldogs a championship.
“We’re going to write the final chapter Wednesday night,” Lemonis stated.
The Bulldogs appear to be intensely focused on winning it all. This team has come so close and is poised to be able to win Mississippi State’s first team championship.
All the Bulldogs need is just one more win.
Again, thanks to the Mississippi State Athletic Department for showing off the video of Lemonis chatting with his team following a pivotal and incredible win. It’s a win that Mississippi State fans will remember for a very long time.
