Just one more win.

Let’s just get one more win. That’s all Mississippi State needs for the Bulldogs to be national champions as the Mississippi State baseball team pummeled the Vanderbilt Commodores Tuesday evening, winning 13-2. And now all Mississippi State needs is just one more win.

That’s not too much to ask for, right?

But, despite the fact that Mississippi State seemingly scored at will and won with ease Tuesday evening, it is worth noting that beating Vanderbilt won’t be a super easy thing to do.

Vandy is looking to repeat as national champs and has all the talent necessary to do just that.

Vanderbilt looked very vulnerable Tuesday evening, but beating the Commodores again likely won’t be an easy task.

Vandy will almost certainly come into Wednesday night’s game looking for a big win over the Bulldogs after losing by 11 runs Tuesday night. Just as we saw Mississippi State get motivated and show up with a remarkable performance after suffering a stunning loss, it’d be reasonable to expect the same from the Commodores.

Thankfully, Mississippi State’s dominant performance in game 2 wasn’t just at the plate, it was also on the mound. The Bulldogs only needed a couple of pitchers because Houston Harding and Preston Johnson were so good against the Commodores.

The two pitchers combined to strike 11 batters out and only gave up a pair of solo shot home runs in the process.

And because Harding and Johnson kept the Commodores quiet, Mississippi State was able to save some arms and let them get another day of rest. MSU has just about its entire bullpen available for game 3.

That’s huge as the Bulldogs look to get one more win.

Look, no pressure or anything.

No big deal.

No worries.

But, all the Mississippi State baseball team needs is just one more win to get its first national championship. That’s huge for this program, which has never been this close to winning it all. And really, it’s huge for this University and also the state of Mississippi.

A win on college baseball’s biggest stage would be a game changer for an Athletic Department that hasn’t ever had a team win a national championship.

Sure, there have been individual successes here and there. And the Bulldogs’ club disc golf teams (both men’s and women’s teams) have won a couple titles. Plus the club bass fishing team is solid too.

But this championship would mean a good bit more for MSU. So, let’s get just one more win.
