For the first time this season, the Texas Southern Tigers have won a game. The Mississippi State Bulldogs appeared like a shell of themselves when facing off against the Tigers in Starkville.

MSU was able to start the game out with a solid lead, jumping out to a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the 1st inning, but it didn’t take long for Texas Southern to fight back.

In the top of the 2nd, the Tigers claimed a 3-2 lead over State, showing the Bulldogs that they didn’t arrive in Starkville to simply be an easy opponent for a major program.

Jordan Westburg doubled down the left field line in the bottom of the 2nd to tie things up at 3-3, but Texas Southern found a lot more life in the top of the 4th. The Tigers tacked on four more runs in the inning, building an insurmountable 7-3 lead over Mississippi State.

Each team would go on to add another run to the scoreboard, but the Bulldogs were outmatched by a team that arrived in Starkville seeking its first win.

MSU dropped the game 8-4.

Mississippi State falls to 5-2 with the loss. Texas Southern is now 1-9. The Bulldogs will play at Dudy Noble Field again Wednesday at 2 p.m. when they host Alcorn State.
