PULLMAN, Wash. – Saturday afternoon, the Washington State Cougars cruised to an easy win as they steamrolled the Northern Colorado Bears. Winning by a score of 64-21 is a pretty good indicator of a dominant and all-around impressive performance.
But there are some other noteworthy numbers to take a gander at. Like these four stats from the Cougars‘ win:
4 impressive stats from Wazzu win
327 – Passing yards for Washington State Cougars QB Cameron Ward
In the third game of the 2023 Washington State football season, Ward effortlessly lit up the Bears through the air. He was efficient, completing 20 of 26 passes for 327 yards and 4 touchdowns, with zero interceptions.
Ward had no issue spreading the ball around Saturday and really seemed to have his full arsenal of weapons at his disposal. This Washington State Cougars offense is dangerous and will be fun to watch during Pac-12 play.
80 – Yards after catch for Wazzu WR Lincoln Victor
While a number of wide receivers and pass catchers got involved in torching the Bears’ secondary, Lincoln Victor stood out in Washington State’s victory on Saturday.
Victor was targeted nine times and he managed to haul in six receptions and racked up 119 yards and two touchdowns. But beyond that, he was dangerous once the ball got into his hand and he took off for 80 yards after the catch. He was a thrill to watch against the Bears.
52 – Longest rush of the day for Washington State
Washington State isn’t really known for running the ball a whole bunch, but the Cougars did have some highlights from that part of their offense on Saturday. Most notably is Dylan Paine breaking free for a 52-yard run against the Bears. In total, the Cougars had 239 rushing yards and averaged 6.4 yards per carry. A balanced attack will make this team hard to stop in Pac-12 play.
36 – The first half point differential
It’s pretty clear that this game was one-sided, but it was very lopsided by the time that halftime rolled around.
The Cougars offense was firing on all cylinders early on in the contest and the overmatched Bears defense wasn’t able to contain what Wazzu wanted to do. Washington State led 43-7 at halftime. And of course, the 64-21 final score demonstrates just how dialed in the Cougars were throughout this game.
Now, behind Ward and a dynamic offense, Washington State is entering into Pac-12 play. If the Cougars can play like this against conference foes, they might make things really interesting this season.
