Vanderbilt’s head coach had a few nice words for the Mississippi State Bulldogs after MSU defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores in the 2021 College World Series.
Thursday afternoon, just one day after Mississippi State handed Vanderbilt a 9-0 loss, Tim Corbin congratulated the Bulldogs on their championship in a letter posted to Twitter.
“Congratulations on your National Championship. You all are very deserving,” Corbin wrote.
And he’s not wrong. The Bulldogs demonstrated that they were one of the best teams in the country by absolutely dismantling the Commodores in two blow-out games in the College World Series finals. Mississippi State looked phenomenal and, in those two games, beat Vandy by a combined score of 22-2.
Corbin certainly had plenty of praise for the program Chris Lemonis had built and for everything associated with Mississippi State baseball, including its fans.
Tim Corbin praised Mississippi State for the energy they bring to games
One of the biggest stories from the 2021 College World Series finals was the presence of so many Mississippi State baseball fans in Omaha. It’s no secret that Mississippi State fans will show up for the College World Series.
I lived in Omaha for a couple of years, I can confirm that there is always plenty of maroon and white running around that town this time of year.
Corbin certainly noticed that as well.
“Your program and fan base create a special energy that is tough to duplicate anywhere,” Corbin added.
Corbin found it ‘enjoyable’ to compete against Mississippi State
But more important than the praise that Mississippi State fans received is the compliments Corbin had for the Bulldogs out on the field.
“It has been very enjoyable to compete against your kids over these last few years,” Corbin explained.
And he’s not wrong. The Bulldogs and Commodores have had a solid bit of a rivalry brewing over the past few seasons. Mississippi State and Vanderbilt battled each other over the past three seasons with each team getting some notable wins.
From the 2018 Nashville Super Regional to the 2019 College World Series to various regular season meetings, the Bulldogs and Commodores have faced each other a few times even before the 2021 College World Series. It hasn’t always been fun as a fan, but Corbin says he said he enjoyed it, and there’s a good chance that he truly has.
