The Mississippi State football team is earning some respect after taking down the defending national champions.

On Saturday, the Mississippi State Bulldogs defeated the then No. 5 LSU Tigers (according to the Amway Coaches Poll) 44 to 34 in Death Valley in what was one of the biggest wins in MSU’s history.

Mississippi State’s 10-point win over the Tigers was shocking, but what wasn’t shocking is what happened after the game.

Turns out, when you defeat a top 10 team, your team suddenly gets a lot of attention. This is especially true when you beat a top 10 team by double digits on the road, which is what Mississippi State did to LSU Saturday afternoon.

So, after MSU’s 44-34 win over the Tigers, the Bulldogs have leapt up into the Amway Coaches Poll, earning the No. 14 ranking there.
