It feels good to have a head coach for the women’s basketball team again. After Vic Schaefer surprisingly left Mississippi State to lead the Texas Longhorns, the Bulldogs went over to Old Dominion and hired their head coach, Nikki McCray-Penson, who is now the Bulldogs’ head coach.
McCray-Penson hasn’t been a head coach for very long, but she’s already a proven winner.
The Mississippi State news release about the hire does a great job of explaining her credentials (she’s played in the SEC at a high level, she’s been an assistant coach in the SEC at a high level for a very long time, and immediately turned Old Dominion into a winner).
I’m on board with the hire.
I think John Cohen hired someone who will step into Starkville and continue elevating the Mississippi State women’s basketball program.
But it doesn’t really matter what I think, in all honesty. What does matter is whether or not McCray-Penson can win. And up to this point, she’s shown that she can win, and she can win a lot.
Here’s to watching McCray-Penson continue those winning ways in Starkville.
Good luck, coach. Whenever the world does return to normal, I think we’ll all be looking forward to seeing your team take the court in the Hump.

We have an opportunity to do some good here. We’ve got a chance to help. Erin and Ben Napier (Ole Miss alumni, I believe) of HGTV’s “Home Town” and of Laurel, Mississippi have jumped in and are raising funds for those impacted by the storms.

Today’s tunes:
Let’s get a little weird today. But, really, this isn’t weird musically. Joshua Hedley is a phenomenally talented musician who, stylistically, is very much a throwback to classic country. He’s a bit of an oddball, but I’m here for it. Check out his work:
