When Mississippi State softball needed a miracle, the Bulldogs got one. And the #17 Mississippi State Bulldogs certainly took advantage of an incredible 6th inning surge to upend the remarkable #10 Florida Gators in the series opener.

In a thrilling matchup at Nusz Park, the Mississippi State Bulldogs emerged victorious over the Florida Gators with a final score of 13-12.

Quite clearly that game was a high-scoring affair.

It was steady early on for the Florida Gators as they climbed out to a 2-0 lead heading into the third inning. And the Mississippi State had one of their impressive scoring bursts to climb ahead 4-2.

Salen Hawkins smacked a homer to put Miss. State on the board. And then after a Barbary RBI double tied things up for the Bulldogs. And then shoutout to Madisyn Kennedy, who hit a two-run home to put MSU up 4-2.

AND THEN FLORIDA RESPONDED BY SCORING FIVE RUNS IN THE TOP OF THE 4TH INNING.

This game was bonkers.

Mississippi State softball outlasts Florida in high-scoring thriller

As the Gators battled back in the fourth, Mississippi State was able to chip away at the deficit with a two-run scoring burst in the 5th inning.

AND THEN FLORIDA RESPONDED BY SCORING FIVE RUNS IN THE TOP OF THE 6TH INNING.

In the top of the sixth, Florida extended their lead with a dreadfully impressive five-run outburst. Otis tripled, driving in two runs, followed by an RBI single from Walsh and a two-run homer by Goddard.

However, the Bulldogs refused to go down quietly, exploding for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. Cook’s two-run homer and Barbary’s RBI single were key hits in the inning.

Mississippi State’s sixth inning rally seals the win

While the Florida Gators had an incredible sixth inning surge of their own, Mississippi State’s was even better. After Florida put up 5 runs to take a 12-6 lead over the Bulldogs, MSU scored SEVEN RUNS to win 13-12.

This game was bizarre and ridiculous. Everett earned the win for Mississippi State, which was wild and great. Marron snagged the save for MSU. And pitching was hardly the focus of this game for either of these teams. Slugging and power hitting and fun home runs. That was the focus.
