Look, we’re over halfway through the 2024 college softball season. Time is flying by. We’re already 1/3 of the way through the year. Where the time went, I have no clue. But what I do know is that things are heating up in the Southeastern Conference’s college softball standings.

Samantha Ricketts and the Mississippi State softball team are in a pretty solid spot, all things considered, especially when considering just how dominant and talented the SEC happens to be this season.

Let’s take a look at the SEC standings so far.

Table of Contents

Leading the pack is the Tennessee Lady Volunteers (yes, they’re the Lady Vols, no, Mississippi State is not officially known as the Lady Dawgs, that’s just a group of fans who are kinda running with that one). Tennessee has done well and has maintained an impressive 6-0 record and a 25-4 overall record.

Sitting just behind Tennessee is the Texas A&M Aggies, sitting at 8-1 in conference play and 28-4 overall. The Aggies have only suffered one conference loss so far (shoutout to Samantha Ricketts and the MSU Bulldogs for accomplishing that one).

The Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs are tied for third place, each with a 5-1 conference record. Both teams have shown their strength with impressive overall records of 29-4 and 28-4, respectively.

And just behind them? Well, that’s where the LSU Tigers and Mississippi State Bulldogs find themselves. Despite some struggles, both teams have maintained winning overall records and will look to make a push in the remaining games.

Here’s what the full standings look like right now as Miss. State and Florida get set to face each other.

Mississippi State softball vs. Florida Gators

The Mississippi State Bulldogs softball team is set to face what could certainly be their toughest series yet as they host the #10 ranked Florida Gators in a rather important SEC series this weekend at Nusz Park.

Yes, I know the Texas A&M Aggies are right there with just one loss, but Florida has (in many regards) been just as good (if not better) than TAMU has up to this point in the season (and that includes in runs scored so far this year).

The Bulldogs (24-7, 5-4 SEC) will need to be at the top of their game to keep pace with the Gators (29-4, 5-1 SEC), who have been dominant on both sides of the ball this season.

2024 MSU Bulldogs schedule: When will Mississippi State softball play the Florida Gators?

With both teams vying for positioning in the highly competitive SEC, this series looks like it will be a thrilling showcase of elite college softball talent.

Here’s what the schedule looks like for this weekend:

If at all possible, get to Nusz Park. Samantha Ricketts and the Mississippi State Bulldogs certainly deserve your support (and you’ll get the chance to see a top 20 SEC softball matchup in Starkville).

One response to “SEC softball standings ahead of Mississippi State softball hosting Florida Gators”

  1. […] The Bulldogs have been a force to be reckoned with at home, boasting a 14-2 record at Nusz Park. The only team they’ve lost to in Starkville happens to be the Texas A&M Aggies, who are currently second in the 2024 SEC softball standings. […]
