Mississippi State baseball vs. South Carolina preview: Important stats

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are at the bottom of the SEC baseball standings after just two series during the 2023 college baseball season. To say that the Bulldogs are struggling is likely an understatement.

And unfortunately for Chris Lemonis and the rest of the MSU baseball team, things don’t get any easier any time soon. MSU is about to face off against a really solid team as the South Carolina Gamecocks come to town.

If you thought that these the two teams would be even remotely comparable, then I’ve got some really bad news for you…

Mississippi State is off to a 15-11 start and is 0-6 in SEC play so far. Meanwhile, South Carolina is 24-2 and a perfect 6-0 in SEC play. And while the records aren’t even comparable at all, the stats these teams are putting up are even further apart.

It’s not close.

Lemonis and his MSU baseball team have been underperforming. The Bulldogs aren’t even remotely close to what South Carolina is doing right now. MSU’s ERA vs. SEC teams is 14.98.

That’s horrendous.

Unless we see something drastically change in a hurry, there’s a very good chance that this weekend is really painful to watch for MSU baseball fans. Here’s to hoping that the Bulldogs have figured things out.
