Mississippi State baseball preview: South Carolina series
After a couple of disastrous series against the Kentucky Wildcats and the Vanderbilt Commodores, MSU really needs to find a way to bounce back and upset one of the best SEC baseball teams so far this season.
Which, that should be fun given that MSU’s been losing SEC games by double digits fairly regularly so far this season.
The Bulldogs will be looking to make a statement against one of the top teams in the conference. This series will be a true test for Lemonis, Foxhall, and the rest of the Mississippi State Bulldogs as they look to get back on track and prove that they can still compete in the SEC.
We’ll see how it all plays out.
South Carolina is really sharp so far this season. And MSU will absolutely need to keep an eye on these three South Carolina baseball players that could provide some trouble for Lemonis and the Bulldogs this weekend.
3 South Carolina baseball players to watch
Ethan Petry
In 6 SEC games, Ethan Petry has a .500 batting average, 6 home runs, and 13 RBIs. Those numbers are very concerning when one considers a Mississippi State pitching staff that has been struggling to be even remotely consistent.
Noah Hall
So far against SEC competition, Noah Hall has been dominant. He’s boasting a 1.93 ERA and has struck out 15 batters in 14.0 innings pitched. He’s really really good and will likely be a headache for Mississippi State baseball fans.
Gavin Casas
While the aforementioned Petry is someone whose stats are certainly alarming for opponents, South Carolina’s Gavin Casas has also been really solid. Casas has a .350 batting average in SEC play and has hit 3 home runs against SEC pitching.
