After guiding the Mississippi State Bulldogs to the Super Regionals for the first time in program history, Samatha Ricketts and the Mississippi State softball team are heading into 2023 looking to sustain a remarkable amount of success.
The Bulldogs have been building for several years now and, thanks to the 2022 Starkville Super Regional, it appears that they finally had something of a breakthrough. For the first time in program history, MSU got the opportunity to get to a Super Regional and also host it.
That’s a remarkable step in the right direction for this program, but that can’t be the end of this building process. The Bulldogs are still fighting to climb up in the SEC and they’ve still got a ways to go.
What will Ricketts and the Bulldogs accomplish this coming season?
They’ve lost some key contributors and will face a tough schedule. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that this team will just disappear. We’ve already seen unexpected midseason turnarounds from this program under Ricketts’ leadership (shoutout to the 2021 season) and we’ve seen some impressive home run hitting as well (pretty much all throughout Ricketts’ tenure).
Maybe MSU will find a way to continue the momentum they built in 2022 and carry it over into 2023. Here’s how the 2023 schedule shakes out for Ricketts and her Mississippi State Bulldogs:
